What AFS offers to us?
AFS consists of three programs. They are AFS, YES, and GENESYS. What are them? Check this out!
AFS
AFS is a year program, means that if you apply for AFS and you are accepted as a finalist, you will study abroad for a year! Don’t worry, you’ll stay with you host-family there. It will be fun! The countries offered by AFS are USA, Japan, and Europe Country. Wew, all of them are amazing, aren’t them?
YES
YES is also a year program, but with the destination country only USA. Same as AFS, you’ll stay with your host-family in USA and just imagine how fun it will be! You’ll have a chance to learn different culture from your host, and you will get a lot of experiences with them!
GENESYS
A bit different with AFS and YES, GENESYS is an intensive program. So, if you are a GENESYS finalist, you’ll stay abroad not until a year, but only for about two weeks until a month. The destination country is Japan. GENESYS, however, although it’s short, still provide you unlimited experiences and a lot of new friends!

How can I do that?
Don’t be that worry. Just wait, in the early of 2nd semester, your English teacher and we from YESC will inform you about the AFS program, tell you the requirement, and of course, we’ll help you to find information about it.
After you fulfill the requirement, you’ll be able to do the 1st test of AFS selection, which is written test.
About two weeks after that, you’ll hear the result of the test, and those who pass the test, will go to Malang to have the 2nd test of AFS selection, which is interview test. This year, 2009, we have 15 students passed the 1st selection and went to Malang at June 7th.
And again, about two weeks after that, the result of the test will be announced by Yayasan Bina Antarbudaya (YBA) Chapter Malang. Those who pass the test should have one more test in Malang, which is creativity and teamwork test. We have six students this year for the 3rd test in Malang last June 21st.
And if you pass this test, the YBA Committee will re-check and accumulate your score based on your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd test. Then if you pass this, you’ll go to Jakarta. Nice, isn’t it?
And these is, if you pass all of those tests, then just make yourself ready for the new experience and new friends you’ll get when you go abroad and study there.

What Ganesha has achieved from AFS?
Last Year SMAN I Ponorogo, and also YESC, are proudly say that we have to AFS Finalist from our school! They are Silvia Rani from XI A 2 and Merly F.B from XI A 6. Both of them passed all of the selection, and they will go to USA, this year! Unfortunately, due to some personal reasons, Merly cancelled her AFS program. But Silvia takes this great chance, and she’ll take off from Indonesia at August 8th this year. Wew, congratulate for you Silvia! We’ll glad to see you come back again in our school next year, especially if you bring us some merchandise from USA! Haha
